Write together
Nightly sprints & Moonlit January
Twenty-five quiet minutes, together. And in January, thirty-one nights, one story.
You write every word. Nothing you write is used to train AI. Your stories stay yours.

Our sprints happen in the Moonlit Scribes Discord. It's free, and you can simply watch until you're ready to join in.

What's a writing sprint?
- A prompt arrives. Selene posts tonight's prompt each evening in #nightly-prompt. Use it, or write anything you like.
- Twenty-five minutes of writing. No editing, no rereading. Just the next sentence, then the next.
- Share your count. Post your word count, pages or a favorite line in #progress. Every number counts, even twelve.
- Rest, or go again. Stay for another round, or say goodnight. No pressure either way.
Sprints run most evenings. Check #announcements in the Discord for tonight's times. Some writers also gather in the Quiet Room, a voice channel where you can write alongside others, cameras and microphones optional.
Moonlit January
January 1 to 31, 2027. Thirty-one nights, one story.
Start the year with a gentle challenge: writing sprints every night, a fresh prompt each evening, and company the whole way. Write a novel, a novella, a handful of poems or the first chapters of your life story.
- Choose your own goal: words, pages, minutes or simply nights you showed up.
- Small circles, so you're known by name, not lost in a crowd.
- No one left behind for falling short. Every word counts.
- A place in the Showcase for everyone who finishes.
In November and December we're running weekly Road to Moonlit January challenges in the Discord, to help you warm up.

Looking for structure after NaNoWriMo?
The organization behind National Novel Writing Month closed in 2025. Many writers still want what it gave them: a shared goal, a deadline and good company.
Moonlit Scribes offers a quieter version, all year round: nightly sprints for people who write late at night or before dawn, flexible goals instead of one fixed word count, small circles instead of crowds, and a firm promise that you write every word and nothing you write trains AI.
Moonlit Scribes is independent and isn't affiliated with National Novel Writing Month.
Questions people ask
Do I need Discord?
For group sprints, yes. It's free and takes about a minute to set up. You can also write solo anytime with Selene's Ritual on our home page.
What if I miss a night?
Then you miss a night. Come back the next one. Moonlit January is built so that no one is left behind for falling short.
Can I write memoir or poetry?
Absolutely. Every form is welcome. See Moonlit Memoir and our prompts.
Can AI write for me?
No. You write every word. Selene can offer prompts, questions and encouragement, but she never writes your words for you.
Is it free?
Yes. Sprints and Moonlit January are free.
