Privacy Policy

Moonlit Scribes ("we," "us") is a community for writers. We collect as little about you as we can, we never sell it, and we never use your writing to train AI. This page explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Your email address and interests, if you join our list. You give us these through the signup form, and we use them only to send you Moonlit Scribes news, invitations and updates.
- Messages you send us, such as emails to [email protected].
- Basic, anonymous visit statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits and pages viewed without cookies and without identifying you personally.
Your writing stays with you
Anything you write with Selene on our website is stored only in your own browser on your own device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data erases it, so download a copy of anything you want to keep. Images you create with "Make a card" are made on your device too.
Talking with Selene (AI preview)
"Talk with Selene" is optional. When you use it, your messages in that conversation are sent to OpenAI to generate Selene's replies. Our arrangement with OpenAI's business service does not allow your writing to be used to train AI models, and we ask OpenAI not to store the conversation. OpenAI may keep limited data for a short period to prevent abuse, under its own policies.
Moonlit Scribes does not save your conversation on our servers. Your browser keeps it only until you close the tab. To set fair daily limits, we keep a count of messages tied to a scrambled (one-way encrypted) version of your internet address, which is deleted automatically after two days. Please avoid sharing personal details you'd rather keep private. Selene's other gifts (Spark, Unblock, Ritual and Keepsake) don't use AI at all.
If you choose to join our list to keep talking with Selene, your email address is handled as described under "What we collect."
Services we rely on
We use a few trusted services to run Moonlit Scribes. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Cloudflare hosts this website, provides visit statistics and forwards our email.
- Formspree receives signup form submissions.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on this site, which means your browser requests them from Google.
- OpenAI generates Selene's replies when you use "Talk with Selene," as described above.
- Discord hosts our community. When you join our server, Discord's own privacy policy applies to your account and messages.
If we move our mailing list to a newsletter service, it will handle your email address in the same limited way, and we'll update this page.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your personal information.
- We never use your writing to train artificial intelligence, and we don't allow it to be used that way.
- We never share your email address with other members.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any email, or by writing to us. You can also ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. We'll respond promptly.
Adults only
Moonlit Scribes is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let our mailing list know.
